Project: 276 Apartments for Elderly and Disabled and 20 Family Townhouses
Client: Davis Square Architects/Boston Housing Authority
Challenges and Opportunities:
The Heritage development was built in 1974 and encompasses 4 Boston city blocks and almost 300 units.
The scope of work includes significant pedestrian and vehicular circulation upgrades.
DZI was charge with upgrading site circulation, bringing the entire site up to current handicap accessibility standards, reorganizing the dated and inefficient parking, sidewalks, ramps and plaza spaces.
Challenges included retro-fitting ramps, creating accessible building entrances and exits, creating open accessible plaza spaces while being constrained by the maintenance and upgrades to city sidewalks and streets.
